*Please note: We are transitioning to a new website in the next few weeks, and not all Peale events are included on this site. Stay tuned for exciting updates!
The Peale is Baltimore’s Community Museum, serving as a platform for storytellers of all kinds: griots, artists, performers, historians, architects, educators, and other culture-keepers, who employ the full range of artistic media and processes to produce and share their narratives of the city, its places, and the diverse people who have made Baltimore what it is today. The Peale is also a teaching museum, working with students and emerging professionals to diversify the workforce in the cultural sector.
In our 1814 building – the first to be built as a museum in the western hemisphere – we provide a showcase for the city’s storytellers that honors their importance and historical value. Online the Peale hosts exhibitions and events both on its website and at the virtual Peale in Second Life, and shares Baltimore stories with global audiences via free and open social platforms.
The Peale’s mission is to evolve the role of museums in society by providing local creators and storytellers with the space and support they need to realize a complete and accessible cultural legacy for the city of Baltimore.
*As of January 1, 2022, masks will be required to attend in-person events at the Peale. Learn more about COVID requirements. We also offer a number of online programs that are accessible to everyone. Visit specific event pages for accessibility details about each program.
