Redefine/ABLE: Challenging Inaccessibility aims to inform audiences about disability issues, to share the challenges and success stories of those with disabilities, and to identify ways we can create more accessible, inclusive spaces. This catalog includes content from the Redefine/ABLE exhibition as well as disability-related essays from project collaborators. As part of the Peale’s 2019 film screening of “Strive” and “By Any Means Necessary: Stories of Survival,” a short documentary produced by the Baltimore National Heritage Area (BNHA), Peale staff photographer Daisy Brown captured these images of the so-called G300 Squeegee Kids in Baltimore. A “Feejee mermaid,” the skeletal remains of a “wooly mammoth,” and a “cabinet of learned turkies which will dance to music,” were attractions at Baltimore’s Peale Museum in the early 1800s. As the nation’s first museum directors, Charles Wilson Peale, and his sons Rembrandt and Rubens, laid the foundation of the modern American museum.
