Apprenticeships at the Peale provide non-traditional mentorship and vocational training in fine art, curatorial practice, art installation, logistics, and historic building preservation to develop transferable skills using arts as the driving force.

Launched in 2020 by the Peale’s Chief Curator, Jeffrey Kent, the Accomplished Arts Apprentices (AAA) program aims to increase equity and inclusion in the arts, creative and preservation trades with specific focus on people from marginalized communities in Baltimore.
For more than two decades, the artist Jeffrey Kent has offered non-traditional mentorship and professional training to developing artists and entrepreneurs. The AAA program at the Peale provides apprentices with the creative and practical foundations for fulfilled and accomplished careers in the arts, creative, and preservation trades, as well as greater involvement in and appreciation of the arts lifelong.
The AAA program is currently in pilot phase, actively researching and developing the curriculum, partnerships, and funding sources for its ongoing operations while renovating the “Moses Williams Center,” the classroom/gallery and home base for the program at the Peale. Two apprentices, Ty “Savage” and Michael, part of the G300 Squeegee Squad introduced to the Peale through our partners, The Tenderbridge, participated in the inaugural AAA project installing the Kim Rice: Inheritance exhibition in summer 2020.

In creating the AAA program, we have committed to long-term goals which require a steady stream and growth of operational and project funding. Part of the Peale’s 5 year strategic plan, the AAA budget reflects the necessity of intentional investment in human capital, with the bulk of our expenses spent on the people: the apprentices and the experts who mentor them.
We rely on community partners who share in our mission to create inclusive justice in the Art World. We rely on community partners like you.
You can support the AAA Program by contributing to its annual operating costs, and also the renovation of the AAA’s teaching gallery and classroom in 2021, which will be undertaken with the help of the Accomplished Arts Apprentices. You can donate here and contact us for more details!
