Peale Center awarded $15,000 by BNHA

Mayor Pugh announces the 2018 BNHA Small Capital Grants next to the “Magic Ring of Fire” on the Peale stage.

On Friday February 16, 2018, Mayor Catherine Pugh presented the Peale Center with a $15,000 contribution to the capital campaign as part of the 2018 Baltimore National Heritage Area Small Capital Grant Awards. Through the Small Capital Grants, the City of Baltimore partners with the Heritage Area to invest in local institutions and structures through a professionally vetted, competitive grants program. This year, more than $107,000 were awarded to nine organizations, including the Peale.

Mayor to announce Peale and other winners of the FY2018 Baltimore National Heritage Area Small Capital Grant Awards

On Friday, February 16, 2018, Baltimore Mayor Catherine E. Mayor Pugh will visit the Peale to announce the FY2018 Small Capital Grants awards, given by the Baltimore National Heritage Area with funds from the City of Baltimore. The public is invited with RSVP.

Stay after the ceremony to hear the free performance and talk from 12-1pm, “Learning Happened Here: Race and Education in Baltimore from the Colored School to Frederick Douglass High School.”

Be Here: EDU Workshop

High school students from the Baltimore area are invited to participate in a series of four workshops about the state of education in Baltimore and beyond. These are opportunities to share your voices and to produce a series of messages that express your views about your school and education.

We will hold monthly workshops beginning February 9, 2018. Each workshop’s conversation will build upon the previous month’s discussions.

More information is here.

We have space for a maximum of 30 students. Students must complete this application to be considered for participation.

Workshop participants will receive $20 for each full workshop you attend and an additional $20 if you attend all four workshops for a total of $100.

Gas light reignited at the Peale just in time for #GivingTuesday!

Thanks to BGE’s Steve Pedri and Mike Borlie, and David Conrad of Conrad’s Ruth Villa, the Peale’s gas lights have been restored to their former brilliance! Two street lights in front of the Peale, and two in the historic back garden, once again shine brightly with gas light.

For #GivingTuesday, the Peale is offering special tours of the first museum purpose-built in the United States and its vintage gas lights. Any donation will help us restore the 1814 building and relaunch the Peale Center for Baltimore History and Architecture as a new kind of urban museum for the 21st century! Join our Charter Donor Family before January 1, 2018 and we’ll be in touch to arrange your visit.
