After 20 years of being mainly vacant, the Peale Center is back at the center of Baltimore culture!
Baltimore, MD (August 9, 2018) – The Peale Center for Baltimore History and Architecture hosts its Founder’s Day Celebrations from August 15-19, 2018, commemorating August 15, 1814 – the date that Rembrandt Peale first opened his Baltimore Museum to the public. The festivities include five days of both free and ticketed events including tours, talks, film, silhouette cutting, song, storytelling, poetry, garden parties, a makers’ market, food, drink and more at the museum’s location at 225 Holliday St. Baltimore, MD 21202
“We’re thrilled to be able to celebrate the Peale’s 204th birthday by sharing all of the new renovations that have been completed this year, and showcasing some of the diverse programming, storytelling, and artists we work with,” says Executive Director, Nancy Proctor.
As well as the festivities for Founder’s Day, the museum will also celebrate the completion of the exterior renovations of the building and the reopening of the historic garden, which has been replanted as a Pollinator Garden by local land artist, Ashley Kidner, with support from a BGE Green Grant and Morgan State University School of Architecture students working with the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s HOPE Crew program. Also, in the garden, visitors can now see period gas street lights and a gas-powered fire alarm pole, restored by Baltimore Foundry Works and volunteers from BGE’s engineering team.
